Halantha Hewasiliyanage appointed Vice President of CAB |
Congratulations to Mr. Halantha Hewasiliyanage (Chief Manager - Operations) who has been appointed Vice President of the Clearing Association of Bankers at their 4th Annual General Meeting held recently.
The Clearing Association of Bankers (CAB) is an association formed by staff of the cheque clearing units of all commercial banks in Sri Lanka and the national clearing house, Lanka Clear (Pvt) Ltd. CAB was formed in 2008 with the objective of “enhancing the knowledge of bankers as well as to promote goodwill, understanding and fellowship among bankers engaged in clearing.”

UNION BANK INTER BANK SIX-A-SIDE CRICKET CHAMPIONS |
Union Bank of Colombo PLC clenched the champions title at the annual inter- bank six-a-side soft ball cricket tournament held at the NCC grounds recently. The event was organized by the Trade Finance Association of Bankers.
The UB team played five matches competing in round one against HSBC & Standard Chartered Bank, in the quarter finals against Pan Asia Bank team and the semi finals with HNB "B" team. The Finals were played between Union Bank and HNB "A" where Union Bank scored 94 for 3 winning against HNB "A" who was out for 26 runs
Kushan Lewke of Union Bank was awarded "The Best Bowler of the tournament " and Ayeshan Perera of Union Bank was awarded "The Best Batsmen of the tournament". Talent Night for Union Bank |
Union Bank has organised a Talent Night for all its employees to showcase their capabilities and talents through original and personally choreographed singing and dancing entertainment items and dramatic skits . This is the first event of this nature organised by the Bank to stimulate creativity among its employees and enhance further camaraderie.

Sanjev Perera
Mr Sanjev Perera joined the team Union Bank as the Chief Manager - International with effect from 02nd July 2012.
Sanjev holds a Masters of Business Administration from Postgraduate Institute of Management of University of Sri Jayawardhanapura and his work experience spans across Hatton National Bank, HSBC, Seylan Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton. He was a consultant to the Board of Directors at Capital Alliance Group prior to joining Union Bank.
He is a Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.

Mr Nandika Nawagamuwa
Mr Nandika Nawagamuwa joined the Union Bank team as the Chief Manager – Risk Management with effect from May 2012. Nandika has extensive experience in Corporate Banking and Risk Management in Sri Lanka and Overseas and counts over 20 years of banking experience of which 14 years with Seylan Bank and 06 years with Emirates NDB Bank. Apart from the core specialty, he possess experience and working knowledge in International banking and Syndications, Trade Finance, Treasury Products, Cash Management, Factoring, Leasing, Margin Trading, IPO Financing, Retail & SME Banking, Corporate Planning (Strategy), Internal Auditing and Human Resource Management.
He holds an MBA from PIM, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Chartered Accountancy Institute, and an Associate Member of ICMA Australia and Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.

Mr Halantha Hewasiliyange joined the Union Bank team as the Chief Manager-Operations from August this year. Halantha holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Open University of Sri Lanka and he is an Associate member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. His professional career spans across James Finlay & Company Ltd, Commercial Bank of Ceylon Ltd and Societe Generale Colombo Branch. He was the Operations and Banking Services Manager attached to Public Bank Colombo Branch prior to joining Union Bank.

Roshan excels at Deaf Expo |
Hiran Roshan Withanachchi was one of the Sri Lankan deaf leaders to attend the 2nd International "Deaf Expo" a conference on empowering technologies in education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, which was held in India on 13th to 15th December, 2010 at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. He was awarded the First Prize for the Dance contest held as a part of this event Roshan has served as the secretary of the Gampaha Deaf Association in the recent past and now serves as a Consultant in most of the deaf associations in Sri Lanka.
Roshan is a past pupil of Mahanama College, Colombo, Special Education Section. Being a banker in profession, Roshan has been serving Union Bank for 13 years. While having a busy work schedule, he has managed to lead the Deaf Association and have organized many events for the benefit of its members. He was selected to attend a 4 months training program held in Japan in 2007. Roshan is married and is a father to a 3 year old girl.

Union Bank gets New Chief |
Mr. Anil Amarasuriya, a veteran banker and former MD/CEO of Sampath Bank PLC has been appointed as Director/Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank of Colombo Ltd with effect from 05 October 2010.
Mr Amarasuriya’s association with Union Bank dates back to 2003 when he spearheaded its restructure, when Sampath Bank and a group of investors infused capital to Union Bank. Since 2009 he has been Director/Consultant of Union Bank and has been instrumental in the Bank’s business re-engineering process, through a new strategic direction, to reposition Union Bank as the preferred Bank for the SME and Retail Banking Sectors.
Mr Amarasuriya’s vision is for Union Bank to emerge as a Powerhouse in the Sri Lankan banking sector, leveraging on the emerging economic prospects in post war Sri Lanka. Consequent to the recent successful capital infusion of Rs 2 bn in Union Bank by both local and foreign investors, he plans to enhance the Bank’s brand image by strategically increasing its presence throughout Sri Lanka, as well as by value additions to existing products, introduction of new products and services, and alternate delivery channels supported by state of the art systems.
Mr Amarasuriya is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Sri Lanka and the Institute of Management Accountants, UK, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, Sri Lanka.
